The holiday season calls for warm drinks sipped by the fire along with family and friends, what better excuse to learn how to make Mulled Wine? Made with red wine, brown sugar, citrus, and filled with delicious spices, this simple drink is seriously the perfect way to warm you up in the evening after a cold day out!
Ingredients list for the spicy mulled wine recipe
Serves 6 :
- 1 bottle (75 cl) of red wine
- An untreated orange
- 1 lemon
- 1/2 cup (100 g) brown sugar
- 1 cinnamon stick (or 1/2 teaspoon of powdered cinamon)
- 2 anise star
- 4 open cardamom pods
Directions
In a saucepan, bring to boil the red wine with spices, sugar, orange and lemon, cut into small wedges. Simmer for ten minutes, then infuse off the heat for half an hour.
Just before serving, warm up or the whole drink or glass after glass to suit your needs. Garnish each glass (or cup) with an orange slice. There are several variations for this recipe: you can add a clove or a pinch of nutmeg. You can replace brown sugar with honey. In some recipes, a little porto glass is added!
