Boiling: This is the most common method of preparing eggs. Simply place your eggs in a pot of cold water and bring to a boil. Once boiling, lower the heat and keep at a gentle boil for 3-5 minutes for soft boiled eggs and 8-10 minutes for hard boiled eggs.
Poaching: To poach an egg, bring a pot of water to a simmer. When water is simmering, add a few drops of vinegar and create a swirl in the water with a spoon. Crack an egg into a small bowl or ramekin. Carefully slide the egg into the simmering, swirling water and cook for 3-5 minutes, until the whites are set and the yolk is still runny. Remove the poached egg carefully for the pot with a slotted spoon and rinse off any vinegar deposit.
Scrambling: To scramble eggs, crack them into a bowl and whisk with a fork until the yolk and whites are combined. Melt butter in a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add eggs. Stir them constantly with a rubber spatula while they cook, until they form soft curds.
Baking: To bake eggs, preheat the oven to 350°F (180ºC). Grease a baking dish with butter or cooking spray and crack eggs into it. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until the whites are set and the yolks are still runny.
Frying: To fry eggs, heat a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat, then add butter or oil. Crack the egg into the pan and cook for around 2 minutes, then flip it and cook for another minute, until the whites are set and the yolk is still runny. For sunny side ups, do not turn the eggs – but you can cover the pan so the eggs get a little steamed.
Omelette: To make an omelette, whisk eggs together in a bowl and season with salt and pepper. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat, add butter or oil and pour in the eggs. As the eggs start to set, carefully lift and tilt the pan to allow uncooked egg to reach the bottom. Once the omelette is nearly set, fold it in half and slide it onto a plate. Enjoy!
