Question: “I want to make an apple pie with a creamy mixture with eggs and sugar but I would like to add some crunch with a crumble topping. I think I need flour, butter and sugar, but in which quantities? And when am I supposed to add the topping over the pie? Towards the end of cooking or straight from the beginning? Thank you in advance”

Editor: First I advise you to have a look at this step by step tutorial with pictures. Here’s an example of crumble topping mix:
- 1/3 oz (10g) flour
- 1/3 oz (10g) caster sugar
- 1/3 oz (10g) chilled butter,
- 1/3 oz (10g) almond powder.
Mix the almond powder with sugar and flour, add the butter and sprinkle over your tart, cooked fruit or anything elese. It takes about 10 minutes for the crumble to get a golden color. So depending on the cooking time of your pie you should add the crumble topping for the last 10 minutes.
