Although the use of a yogurt maker is very simple, there are still an infinite number of models on the market. How to choose it well?
Here are five elements to take into account before choosing your yogurt maker, you will see that it is not so hard to make your choice.
1. The type of yogurt maker:
There are simple yogurt makers with what you can only make yogurt (seems logical) and there are appliances allowing to make fresh cheese, sour cream and buttermilk. They are also sold with special pots. If you like the 2 kinds, why not go for it?
2. The number of pots:
4, 6, 7, 8, 12 pots … Small and large yogurt consumers meet there. Calculate how many yogurts are eaten in a day and see what works best for your family. Know that with a quart of milk, you make eight jars of 5 fl oz(145 mL). Pots, from one brand to another, do not have the same volume. You can make eight jars with some yogurt makers, whereas you can fill in only 6 for the same amount of milk with others devices. The yogurt can be kept covered for 10 days in the refrigerator.
3. Timer:
Allow between 8-10 hours of fermentation for yoghurt. Generally, you start the yogurt maker at night before going to bed and the next morning, you put them in the refrigerator for 12 hours before tasting. Some yogurt makers have a timer and turns off when time is up, while others just emit a signal. If you forget stuff easily (just as I do!), it can be useful because you must know that over-fermented yogurt become too acidic.
4. Price:
From $15 to $200 and more, all budgets are covered, but honestly, it is useless to put too much money on it. A yogurt maker is a very simple appliance and price is mainly related to brand image.
